Combined Major with Cultural Studies. A combined major is created by satisfying the requirements for a combined major in Cultural Studies and another B.A. program that offers a combined major (currently Art History and Visual Culture, Creative Writing, and English). A single course can only fulfill the combined major requirement for one program. Major Learning Outcomes. On successful completion of this major students will be able to: Demonstrate a sound understanding of Cultural Studies key terms and concepts and how they can be used to generate social change; English & Cultural Studies gives students the opportunity to engage with unique works of literature across a diverse array of platforms. While looking back through time at significant historical, political and cultural events, students will be learning critical skills for the modern workplace. Africana Studies: This major features a variety of internships and study abroad opportunities. Classes range from African American Literature to Managing Diversity to the Politics of Protest in Africa and the Diaspora. 116 rows The Media and Cultural Studies major provides an interdisciplinary examination of film, video, television, multimedia, visual and digital cultures, with a primary emphasis on history and theory and a secondary focus on creative intervention in media environments through production. The Cultural Studies option concentrates on analysis of forms of cultural expression and symbolic interaction, and of the various media through which these may be disseminated and transformed. Such study concerns symbolic form, aesthetically based forms of analysis, and the various modes of criticism and theory relevant to media which contain both verbal and non-verbal elements. Cultural Studies Major Cultural Studies challenges the relationship between culture and meaning, beginning with the premise that culture is neither neutral nor natural. In the Cultural Studies program, faculty and students interrogate how meaning is produced and consumed in the process of constructing and inhabiting a culture.
